Meet our trainers...
Our long experience in instructional design and delivering training helps ensure that you get the results that your learners and your organization needs. Here’s a brief background about us.
Carlos Garces
I started out as a music teacher while supporting myself through college. I was a member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers and wanted to be an opera singer. When that didn’t pan out, I applied for a job in an insurance company. Even if my degree was in Psychology, I was hired right away as manager. That’s because my dad was the former Head of Human Resources 😂. Then I was pirated by American Express International and then Citibank.
My last post in Citi was VP & Country Sales Head of Citibank, N.A. My sales team helped boost the growth of the bank’s cards business, making it the market leader in three years. From 15 sales people, we grew the team to over 1,200 sales professionals. So, I needed a really good Training Manager to help me. That’s when I asked friends from Philippine Airlines who their best trainer was. They had only one name in mind so I pirated …
Joey Pacheco
I began as a school teacher in the province. Then I got wanderlust. So I worked for Philippine Airlines. I got promoted to line manager eventually and I guess my passion for training “shone through” and I was promoted again to trainer. Some people say that I got promoted because of my devastatingly good looks 😂. I would say that aside from that, I also have a passion for excellent service.
In 1995, I got a call from Citibank. Their HR department wanted to interview me for a Training Manager position. I was reluctant because I was having a great time in PAL. I had wonderful friends and travelled a lot. Even if I was already in Citibank I wanted to go back to PAL. But Carlos kept convincing me to stay in the bank. Finally in 1999, realizing that there was a demand for training outside the bank, Carlos and I decided to co-found AESOD Training. During that time, I was also invited to become Chairman of the Service Excellence Dept. of the Ateneo. Then Carlos and I heard of this fabulous trainer who specialised in something we had no knowledge of, Finance Programs! And that’s how we met …
Porky Calaquian
I too started out as a teacher. I graduated from the University of the Philippines and immediately started teaching there after graduation. I was an instructor in the College of Business Administration of the University of the Philippines. Then I became a reviewer for the Aeon Review & Professional Training Center.
Joey and Carlos said that it’s easy to find a trainer who can run fun workshops like Sales or Service. But, they continued, it’s difficult to find a trainer like me who can be so charming and engaging for such staid subjects like Finance or Credit. I’d say that’s just one of the reasons. You see, I graduated Cum Laude and was a CPA Board Placer. So I think, they invited me to join because I would be the smartest in the group 😂. Then one day we ran a workshop for an IT company and met someone who had tremendous screen presence. She was no other than …
Minty Salonga
I was a frequent contestant and winner on TV game shows when they were all the rage. All my life, I’ve always been fascinated by show business. And I’ve worked with celebrities, recording and concert artists, and even movie stars. My life has always revolved around performing. I guess this contributed to my becoming champion speaker for Toastmasters International.
After working for SQL* Wizard (now NTT Philippines) for almost 20 years, I moved to corporate training with the help of my mentors Carlos, Joey and Porky (they asked me to say that). I guess my showbiz personality helped me a lot when I transitioned into training. I have trained hundreds of learners on presentation skills, customer service, and other soft skills. I’ve always had that fun-in-learning attitude that assures the learners that the hours spent during training will not be boring but will be easy to apply in real life. With our expanding network, we felt the need for a communication expert. Luckily, we met this glamorous grammarian named …
Lilet La Viña
So how did I find my way to this awesome group? Porky happens to be my sister! After working in the US for 15 years, I moved back to Manila in 1995. Thanks to that 15-year stay in the US and my “being born with an accent” – I became a much sought-after English language consultant in the call center industry. I also wrote two regular columns in the Manila Bulletin (“Making What You Love Work for You” and “Grammatopia”. Little did I know that these would set me up for what I was meant to do in my life!
I realized that my immersion in a “native-speaker” environment and my Filipino-user perspective of English put me in the unique position of being able to design programs that combined the best of both worlds. The result: practical, easy-to-understand, and fun English programs that focus on the essentials without any of the fluff – something that everyone needs in a world where “social distancing’ is the new norm. So here I am now – AESOD’s Resident Grammar Guru!
“As our training partner and consultant, AESOD Training was instrumental in developing and institutionalizing a successful training program (ACE Program) for the sales organization of Ayala Land Inc.
After the first year of implementing this system into our training program, our sales teams received the highest customer ratings in an independent Customer Experience Measurement (CEM) survey conducted amongst salespeople selling real estate products in the same market segment.”

“Porky Calaquian is one of the best trainers in accounting and financial analysis that I know of. And because of that, I’ve been working with her since the 1990s and have gotten her services for whichever company I happen to be working for.
Our training participants consistently rate Porky as “excellent”. That’s because she explains and simplifies accounting principles and applications into layman’s terms. That makes it easy for the participants to relate to, internalize and apply whatever topic she’s teaching.”
